Tost happy with 2020 and Gasly: 'Better than 2008 with Vettel'

AlphaTauri experienced a special season in 2020. The team could not compete with McLaren, Racing Point and Renault, but due to the occasional lightning-fast car, they had a few peaks. Franz Tost even calls it their best season so far.

In the event of such a statement, the comparison with 2008 must be made automatically. AlphaTauri's 2020 season corresponds in several respects to Toro Rosso's 2008 season. It is the only two times that the team finished sixth in the constructors' championship and both times they achieved an unexpected victory at Monza. Nevertheless, 2020 rises above them for Tost.

"2008, yes it was a fantastic victory with Sebastian in Monza, but we didn't have so many good finishes like this year," says the team boss of AlphaTauri to Autosport.com. "It wasn't only the victory in Monza. There were many other good races that we had with the fourth place at Imola, the fifth place in Portimao. We were sixth in Bahrain and in Germany, seventh in Austria, Great Britain and Mugello."

Tost praised not only improvements to the car, but also the driver who scored the most points for him. "Pierre [Gasly] improved a lot. He has reached a real high level now. And therefore, we could be so successful."
