Dan Ticktum has responded to George Russell's jab at him following the Spanish Grand Prix via social media after his collision with Max Verstappen. The Spanish Grand Prix was mostly calm for the majority of the race. However, in the final laps of the race in Barcelona, things took a major turn, with Verstappen, who was heading toward the podium, saw his chances evaporate after an incident with Russell.
After a late safety car put the Dutchman under pressure on hard tyres, Russell went for a move into turn 1, with the two of them touching but able to continue.
Afterwards, Verstappen took to the espace road and joined back ahead of Russell, when he was then told to give the Brit the place back. He then ended up swerving into Russell, receiving a ten-second time penalty for the collision, dropping him to P10. He also received three penalty points on his superlicense,
bringing him dangerously close to a race ban.
Following the race at the
Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya, an outspoken Russell appeared before the media, including
GPblog, first letting it be known that he was not at all impressed by Verstappen, who, in his opinion, set a bad example for the younger viewers of the race.
He was then asked if Verstappen was the only driver who would dare undertake such an action, to which Russell replied:
“Not in Formula 1. Maybe in Formula E. Yes, maybe there's one British driver in Formula E. But as I said, Max is one of the best in the world.”On Sunday evening, Ticktum, who is never afraid of giving his own opinion, took to his social media channels to respond
“Evening, sports fans, I hope you were all having a lovely Sunday. I've just had a very nice evening with the team and some of the guys from Porsche here in Shanghai. Just on the way back to the hotel,” Ticktum began in a video on his Instagram story.
Ticktum addresses comparison with Verstappen
“It has come to my attention via the Twittersphere that a certain driver in Formula 1 - not to name names, but his name is George Russell - has made some rather choice comments about a certain Formula E driver,” the Brit continued.
“He hasn't named my name, but it's obviously pointed at me. I'd like to address those comments that he made.”
“Number one, thank you for the free publicity. We'll take that any day of the week," he laughed. "And two, while what Max did today was a little bit sceptical to be likened to him at any point in my career, it's positive, if you ask me. Goodbye!"
