Former F1 driver Ralf Schumacher has slammed Max Verstappen after his collision with George Russell at the Spanish Grand Prix, disappointingly saying that the Dutchman's "behaviour is a shame".
The Dutchman was handed a ten-second time penalty after he swerved into the Mercedes driver and collided with him, dropping him from P5 to P10 and giving him one singular point.
After the race, Russell believed that the collision between the two of them was deliberate, while Verstappen said he would give Russell "some tissues" after he complained about it
It all came after Verstappen changed onto the medium tyres after a late safety car, while all his other rivals went onto the softs, allowing Russell to try and make a move into turn 1, which saw the Red Bull driver go up the escape road and rejoin the track in front of Russell, where he was then told to let him past, resulting in the incident.

It is not the first flashpoint the two drivers have had, with the 2024 Qatar Grand Prix being another time where Verstappen and Russell locked horns

Schumacher surprised at Verstappen's conduct

It was a collision that caught many by surprise, as it now hugely impacts Verstappen and his slim title chances, including the now F1 pundit Schumacher.
"His behaviour is a shame; as a four-time world champion, he doesn't need that," he said to the Sky Sports Germany cameras in Barcelona.
"I don't know what got into him. It's clear that he's frustrated, but that shouldn't be the case. I think he realised today that things aren't going as hoped and that the update didn't work so well."
The German, who has often spoken about the future of the Dutchman, then has his say about how Verstappen's conduct could impact his contract and his future.
"You have to pay attention to why such things happen and why he gets an unnecessary penalty when there's a clause. It's a critical phase," concluded Schumacher.
