Lewis Hamilton could break yet another record in his remarkable Formula 1 career at this weekend's Belgian Grand Prix. Few circuits reveal a driver’s greatness like Spa-Francorchamps. The Belgian Grand Prix winners’ list features legends including
Michael Schumacher, Ayrton Senna and Lewis Hamilton, with the battle for supremacy now centred on whether Hamilton can equal the all-time record this weekend.
Ferrari's turnaround has seen them
win two of their last three races, and they are in strong contention to challenge Mercedes and give Hamilton what would be his sixth victory at the Belgian Grand Prix. Ahead of this weekend's race, GPblog takes a look at who features at the top of the list for most wins on one of Formula One's most iconic circuits.
Michael Schumacher is the current King of Spa
Michael Schumacher currently holds the record for the most wins at the Belgian Grand Prix, winning six times during his legendary career. The German, who like Hamilton has seven world titles, was always tough to beat around Spa-Francorchamps, taking the first victory of his career at the circuit back in 1992.
He followed that with victories in 1995 (after starting 16th), 1996, 1997, 2001 and 2002. He had numerous other close calls to his name and was notably disqualified after crossing the line first in 1994 due to a worn skid block. Schumacher also finished second at Spa in 1993, 2000 and 2004, and crashed into the back of David Coulthard while leading the race in 1998.
Hamilton could match Schumacher's record at 2026 Belgian GP
Hamilton could match Schumacher's record of six wins in Spa this weekend, though fans who remember the 2008 Belgian Grand Prix, might feel that the Brit should already be level with Schumacher.
He crossed the line first in 2008 but was given a 25 second penalty and relegated to third for cutting a chicane and gaining an advantage. Hamilton had overtaken Kimi Raikkonen on the final corner and let him through before instantly repassing the Finn for the lead into Turn 1.
Despite Raikkonen crashing out of the race on the next lap, Hamilton still received the penalty, handing victory to his title rival that season Felipe Massa.
Hamilton waited until 2010 to pick up his first victory at the Belgian Grand Prix, following it off with wins in 2016, 2018, 2020 and 2024 - the latter of which saw him get his luck back from 2008, after his teammate George Russell finished first, only to be disqualified for his car being underweight.
After winning two of their last three races, Ferrari are in strong contention to challenge Mercedes and have one of their drivers walk onto the top step of the podium at Spa-Francorchamps this weekend.
