Aston Martin F1 driver, Lance Stroll, has reacted to Aston Martin's decision to make éegendary F1 designer, Adrian Newey, their Team Principal in 2026. It's positive for everybody at Aston.
- Lance StrollAdrian Newey will step into the role of Team Principal at Aston Martin next season, taking over from Andy Cowell, who has held the position for the 2025 season. Newey joined Aston Martin in March this year, after departing Red Bull Racing in 2024, a team he spent the better part of two decades with.
Newey initially joined Aston Martin to develop their AMR26 car for the upcoming new technical regulations change, which will see changes to both the engines and the aerodynamics. However, just before the end of the 2025 season, it has been announced that Newey will take over from Cowell at Aston Martin as Team Principal for next year, with Cowell holding a different role within the team.
This also means that Aston Martin will have had a different Team Principal for each of the last three seasons.

Lance Stroll reacted to this news, saying: "Adrian's in charge of the car design, but also, heavily involved in the culture of the team and and getting the most out of everyone that has a part of contributing and building the car. It's a performance driven business and Adrian's all about performance. So I think it's positive."
Newey has achieved great success within Formula One, designing 12 Constructors' Championship-winning cars across multiple teams. The Brit has recently enjoyed great success at Red Bull alongside Max Verstappen, who has taken four consecutive titles in cars designed by Newey.
Stroll was also asked about what it has been like working with Newey this year, saying: "We have conversations about what I like in the car. But next year is a completely different kind of car. So at the end of the day, it's all about building the fastest race car we can, and then when we get to the track and we drive, then the conversation's about the balance and limitations."
