At Sky Sports, the incident between George Russell and Max Verstappen is still the talk of the town. Martin Brundle
also shared his thoughts on the incident, explaining that he would have given a harsher verdict to the Dutchman. Already on Thursday, the topic was one of the significant talking point in Montreal, and before FP1, the defending world champion being close to getting a suspension was once again brought up.
What penalty did Verstappen receive in Barcelona?
During their preview ahead of the first session of the Canadian GP, analysts were once again asked about the incident that took place two weeks ago between Verstappen and Russell.
Brundle there stated he would have given Verstappen four penalty points instead of three, and a drive-through penalty as well instead of the 10-second penalty that relegated the Red Bull driver to P10. Those four points would have also meant a race ban already in Montreal for the Dutchman.
A black flag however would have been too much according to the former F1 driver.
Verstappen already had a clash with a Sky Sports employee this week. On Thursday, he called out Ted Kravitz for 'singling out' a person from Red Bull.
Kravitz himself said he was unaware of doing such thing.
Brundle then continued about Verstappen being close to getting a ban.
"He's an aggressive driver and that's how he rock and rolls. That's how he goes racing. Max has got such amazing car control, he can place his car, he knows the rules and can chance his luck. More and more he's losing out on that."
He concluded: "If I was a Mercedes, McLaren or Ferrari driver I would be goading him to get those extra points because subconsciously he knows he needs to be a touch more careful. But in Max's mind he thinks this year's World Championship against two great drivers in a McLaren is a long shot."
