Recently, Sky Sports and British media were called out for their biased coverage of Formula 1. Adrian Newey for example, suggested that British media also in general 'demonised' Max Verstappen back in 2021. Now, David Croft explained how he tries to be as impartial as possible when he is commentating for the TV channel.

Croft explains how he tries to be impartial

After the British commentator missed the Azerbaijan GP as he recently got married and was on his honeymoon, Croft explained he does not think is biased when working. "I will try and follow the story, it’s as simple as that. You try and follow the story wherever that story might be, and Formula 1 is unique in that there are many different stories that happen during the course of the race. You’ve also got to talk to the pictures, which we have no control over, on Sky, at all – they’re all from a world feed – so you’re reacting to what that director wants to put out there," he told Speedcafe.com.
The channel's lead commentator then underlined, "I try to be as impartial as I can. It’s really difficult to prove whether you’re impartial or not because we all watch with a bias. We all watch with our own bias and our own perceptions of a comment or a statement that somebody makes. And when you’re trying sometimes to be neutral, someone will perceive that in a completely different way."
In the end, Croft admitted that he may react more enthusiastically when a British driver wins, something he might not realise in the heat of the moment. However, he also declared he tries to be enthusiastic no matter who crosses the finish line in first place.
