Do the updates from Red Bull Racing finally work? Max
Verstappen was hopeful after his pole position for the British Grand Prix, although it remains to be seen if this can be replicated in the
race and other race weekends. Max Verstappen also surprised himself with the pole position
for the British Grand Prix. The Dutchman edged out Oscar Piastri in the final phase of qualifying to grab pole, who until then seemed to be the best driver.
Red Bull Racing had been struggling with the car throughout the weekend up to that point. After Friday, Helmut Marko talked about a problem with
understeer in the car. Marko was already optimistic then, thinking that competing for pole was possible if that issue could be solved. That proved true on
Saturday.
A number of adjustments to the setup, combined with the
different weather conditions, gradually made the RB21 more suited to Verstappen, resulting in a phenomenal lap in Q3. And that in a weekend where
Red Bull brought updates. It seems no coincidence.
What did Max Verstappen think of Red Bull's updates?
‘’I don’t know how much it brought, but it certainly brought
something,’’ Verstappen said in Austria about the updates. ‘’I am happy with the update
we have put on the car. We must continue to learn. Get better and see race by race what we can do.’’
‘’Of course, we try to add as much lap time to the car with updates as possible. That definitely worked, only yesterday
(Friday) it was still difficult to balance. Today (Saturday) it was already a bit better,’’ said Verstappen, among others, to GPblog.

Yet, it's not certain that this means a step forward at all tracks for Verstappen:
‘’It also depends a bit on the circuit. This
circuit suits us rather well with so many fast corners. However, there aren’t many circuits like
Silverstone on the calendar.’’‘’I think we do fall short when you take the average
of all circuits. If you have a few circuits on the calendar where you
can perform strongly, you should make the most of that.’’
Update or not. Verstappen still does not talk about the
title race. The Dutchman, especially after the retirement in Austria,
has given up on it entirely. That means Verstappen can focus on the races
where he can win. Starting in Silverstone. With rain expected for the
race, it could well be a spectacular edition.
