Red Bull Racing are known for catching up with the competition throughout the season. At the beginning of the season, however, the team often suffers from teething troubles. Horner suggests this will not be the case in 2021, when all teams will start with more or less the same car.
The further development of the current car is therefore more important than ever and the proportions at the end of this season say more about next year than they normally do. In this respect, the updates that Red Bull brought to the Nürburgring are a step in the right direction.
"It felt like we were one step closer", Horner is quoted by RaceFans.net. “There were areas of the circuit here we were equal to or better than the Mercedes. Turn 13, 14 seemed to be our weak spots in comparison to them at this circuit."

Last races important for the b-spec of RB16

"We’ve got Portimao, we’ve got Istanbul, we’ve got Imola, they’re all circuits that will be quite interesting for us. We’re keen to finish the season on a positive momentum having sort of understood quite a few of the issues that we’ve had with RB16 so that’s addressed going into RB16B.”

Because the cars will remain virtually unchanged according to the regulations, a completely new car will not be built before 2021. So the b-spec of the RB16 will have to help Verstappen win next year and, if we can believe Horner, that looks good.
