On Tuesday, Red Bull Racing announced the firing of Christian Horner. According to F1-Insider, the decision to let him go was actually made a week earlier. Horner is no longer the team principal and CEO of Red Bull Racing. He was informed on Monday, following the British Grand Prix, and the team along with the public were officially notified on Tuesday. However, the decision had been finalized internally well in advance.
When was Horner dismissed?
According to F1-Insider, Red Bull actually made the decision to part ways with Horner right after the Austrian Grand Prix. Even Chalerm Yoovidhya, who had stood by Horner during recent turmoil, withdrew his support—mainly due to the team's extremely disappointing performance.
Red Bull failed to score any points in Austria, partly because of Max Verstappen’s retirement but also because the highly anticipated upgrades simply didn’t deliver. Their failure in Austria was reportedly the final straw for management.
Horner had been under pressure at Red Bull Racing for some time. He extended Sergio Perez’s contract for 2024, only for the team to buy him out later in the season for a hefty sum.
According to GPblog, that move cost Horner some of his authority within the team.
