Bradley Lord has dissected the tricky nature of the practice sessions endured by George Russell and Kimi Antonelli during Friday running at the Australian Grand Prix.
“We were certainly still going through the snagging list and working through a few things that caught us out.”

The 45-year-old team representative admitted that both drivers experienced a relatively challenging opening session in FP1, highlighting that the team had several issues to work through early in the day.
“Improved throughout the day. I think we had quite a tricky FP1. We managed to do some high-fuel and some low-fuel running in FP1, and the high fuel looked more competitive than the low. But we were certainly still going through the snagging list and working through a few things that caught us out,” he said.

However, Lord noted that the team enjoyed a much more positive outing during the second practice session at the Albert Park Circuit.
“FP2 was much smoother, and both drivers were reasonably happy on the single lap and reasonably happy on the long run. George was a little bit happier than Kimi. But yeah, there’s lots to do overnight, as you would expect, but overall it was a solid first day,” he concluded.
The first two practice sessions at Albert Park for the Mercedes team unfolded in a relatively contrasting manner. While both Russell and Antonelli appeared to struggle during FP1, the pair were among the frontrunners during the second session of the day.

Lord foresees an exciting race ahead

The Briton also foresees an exciting race ahead, citing how things remain finely poised between the top four teams.
“I think we've said all along that it looks like a very close battle at the front between probably four teams, and I think the timesheets reflect that as well. Max [Verstappen] had a slightly troubled FP2 but showed good pace in FP1, the Ferraris are right there, and Oscar [Piastri] showed that McLaren have got good speed as well. So it's very closely matched, and it couldn't be more exciting really, as it's all set up for the first qualifying session of the year," he said.

Mercedes impresses with long-run pace

Early indications suggest the German outfit have well and truly earned the favourites tag for now, with Red Bull Racing and Scuderia Ferrari experiencing run plans that proved a little tricky to decipher.
