McLaren doesn't plan attack on Mercedes and Red Bull Racing in 2021

McLaren predicted their best season in years in 2020. The team from Woking was able to continue the upward trend started in 2019 and was able to seize third place in the championship due to Ferrari's failure. Is there more in the barrel in the relatively short term?

Andreas Seidl is very cautious about that. In any case, he assumes that Mercedes and Red Bull Racing will have too much of a lead in 2021. Despite the fact that they will then have the powerful and reliable Mercedes engine at their disposal.

"We still have a great deal to do in terms of organisation, processes, tools and infrastructure compared to the top teams. You don't catch up with them overnight. We have all the building blocks together, but now we need time to implement our plans," says Seidl, quoted by Auto Motor und Sport.

Like this year, he thinks that they will have to compete for third place in the championship with the same four or five teams. Up to and including AlphaTauri, they have a chance in his eyes. If everything goes according to plan, McLaren wants to be able to fight for victories again by 2023 at the latest.

This will have to be done with the help of the American investor MSP Sports Capital, which is pumping over EUR 200 million into the team. This money will be used to build a new wind tunnel and a new simulator, among other things.
