A change in TV rights looks set to take place in America, with Apple expected to replace ESPN as the place to watch Formula 1 in the USA next year. ESPN have held the broadcasting rights for the pinnacle of motorsport over the last eight seasons, seeing the popularity of
F1 grow massively, mainly thanks to the release of Netflix's 'Drive to Survive'.
However, in May, it was announced that F1's owner, Liberty Media, had revealed they
had some "good conversations" surrounding a potential change of hands over broadcasting rights, with ESPN's contract coming to an end in 2022. Now, Apple looks set to take over that mantle.
Apple cashing in on 'F1: The Movie' success
According to American news outlet Puck, Apple have offered Liberty Media $150 million per year for rights to broadcast F1 in the USA.
As a result, the technology giants look set to replace ESPN, with the huge broadcaster offering $85 million per year, just over half of Apple's mammoth figure.
It comes after the huge success and popularity of 'F1: The Movie' that saw Apple Studios produce the blockbuster, alongside four other companies.
As of July 12, 2025, 'F1: The Movie' has grossed over $350 million worldwide, with Apple now in the midst of the growing F audience in America, resulting in their huge bid for broadcast rights.
The California-based company also have other live sports broadcasting in their repertoire, including Major League Baseball and Major League Soccer.
Now, F1 looks to be the third sport Apple will have in its broadcasting rights.
