Martin Brundle is best known as the voice which accompanies the picture when you are watching Formula 1 on Sky Sports F1. However, he used to race as well and has 158 Formula 1 starts to his name. He has assessed Formula 1 in the modern era and how it compares to when he used to drive.
“I don’t think there is any less talent or skill," Brundle said to the Collecting Cars Podcast. "They aren’t going to die like we were probably going to die. Their skill has moved away from just manhandling a car and surviving a lap and a Gand Prix to now driving with such incredible precision.
"Is that exciting? Not always, but this year I’ve enjoyed as much as many a year in Formula 1. It’s certainly the best year in the hybrid era which is a bit of a backhanded compliment!
"It’s young guns trying to knock the established off their pedestals with amazing racing cars."
Formula 1 has become safer and it develops with each year that passes. It remains the pinnacle of motorsport and for the seasons to come we will have competitive and exciting racing with a young crop of talent coming through.
