Helmut Marko believes that
Daniel Ricciardo has what it takes to win the title this season, despite being 38 points behind championship leader Lewis Hamilton.
Ricciardo has won in China and Monaco this season but has only scored 22 points in the other four races.
Two DNFs in Bahrain and Azerbaijan have left the Australian lagging behind Hamilton and Sebastian Vettel.
He will go to the
Canadian Grand Prix with confidence high, and has received another boost, with his MGU-K being ok to race again.
There was worry in the Red Bull camp that the engine part had been damaged and would need replacing, triggering a ten-place grid penalty.
Marko said: “It looks like there will be no grid penalty for us in Montreal.
“But at some point, at one of the next races, we will be caught out."
An engine upgrade from Renault is expected before Canada, and Red Bull boss Christian Horner says he expects “fewer problems” with the package.
“We have a great car,” Marko added. “The upgrade from Barcelona is the base. Without the technical problems in Bahrain and the collision in Baku, we [Ricciardo] would be right up there."
