Yuki Tsunoda has so far failed to make a truly good impression at Red Bull Racing. In all races so far, he has been far off Max Verstappen's pace in both qualifying sessions as well as in the races, but there was always a reason. That's no longer the case, if one were to ask the Austrian team's chief advisor, Helmut Marko. For weeks, Tsunoda has been affected by his serious crash in Imola. Not physically, but the crash destroyed many of the upgrades Red Bull brought to the Italian circuit, to which they had no spare parts for. Red Bull. It simply took a while for these parts to be remanufactured at the factory in Milton Keynes.
In Canada, however, the Japanese driver has the same specification RB21 as Verstappen does. Marko said to the Kronen Zeitung: “Yuki now gets the same parts as Max. After his crash in Imola, we couldn't race with two identical cars. Now we hope he can learn something from Max.”
For Yuki Tsunoda, the excuses seem to be over
'Tsunoda must now perform'
It's essential for all teams that their second driver consistently finishes in the points as well, and Red Bull is no exception. The argument that Tsunoda is struggling doesn't quite sit well with Marko. “Everything is hard. Yuki must finally score points.”
Yet, there's one thing Tsunoda doesn't need to worry about. Red Bull will definitely give him until the end of the current season, Marko confirms.
