Red Bull Racing advisor Helmet Marko reminisces from the past and says that Max Verstappen looks a lot like his childhood friend Jochen Rindt. The German died exactly 50 years ago.
Today, it is exactly 50 years ago that Formula 1 lost one of its great heroes. Jochen Rindt died in an accident during qualifying for the Italian Grand Prix in 1970. At the time of death, Rindt was at the top of the World Championship standings and was not overtaken in the remaining races. He is the only driver who could not celebrate his world title.

Comparison with Verstappen

"There are parallels, such as the ability to go straight to the extreme", Marko tells Servus TV about Verstappen and Rindt. "Many drivers need a certain warm-up time, for example when it starts to rain. Jochen was able to go straight to the extreme in the first lap."
According to Marko, Rindt had incredible vehicle control. "That had nothing to do with risk. It was a gift, he was able to drive his car to its absolute limit in any situation."
