F1 fans have been inquiring into seven-time world champion Lewis Hamilton 's failure to keep his post-Abu Dhabi Grand Prix promise of throwing his phone 'in the fricking bin' for the winter. Arriving at the last race of the F1 2025 season Hamilton's form was at a low, failing to make it out of Q1 in the last three qualifying sessions. In Abu Dhabi, the British driver would make it a fourth, qualifying in P16, which left him feeling "a lot of anger."
Come Sunday Hamilton was able to complete an 8-place gain to finish in P8. After the race, though, Hamilton said he would throw his phone "in the fricking bin", in a bid to undergo a social media detox. Easier said than done as it turns out.
Hamilton's phone still out of the bin
Hamilton has actually continued to have a strong social media presence, posting several updates already about his life out of F1. Thus several fans have questioned him in the comments section of his posts, and the champion has answered.
“Sir this doesn’t look like a social media detox???” one user said. Hamilton in turn tried to explain:
“[It's] all about balance.” Another fan questioned the
Ferrari driver about his screen time use, to which Hamilton said it was
“low.” After finishing a season without a single Grand Prix podium finish to his name, Hamilton sealed the worst campaign in his 19-year long career in the sport, breaking a negative Ferrari record as the driver with the most consecutive outings without a podium.
'Hamilton's Ferrari future rests solely in his hands'
Reports say Hamilton’s Ferrari contract runs through 2027 with a driver option for 2028, giving him sole control over the extension and potentially limiting Ferrari’s flexibility.
