Hamilton lifts the lid on his non-negotiable Christmas tradition

Lewis Hamilton has spoken about the Christmas traditions he makes a point of honouring every single year.

The seven-time world champion admitted he is a big fan of Secret Santa — a tradition that has been hugely popular in Formula 1 for years at the end of each season — and revealed that he also gets the whole family involved.

“Christmas tradition now is Secret Santa,” he said in a video shared on Ferrari’s official Instagram account. “We do Secret Santa every year. We go down to Walmart — it closes at 6:30 — and we get there at six. You’ve got half an hour to find five gifts for $50. It can be funny stuff.

“And then we have to roll the dice. If you get doubles, you can choose any present. Then there’s a stealer round, so you roll doubles again, and if you roll a double, you can steal someone else’s present. It’s been the best thing for my family. It’s just good energy.”

Now that the season has come to a close, the drivers can momentarily switch off and enjoy the festive break, allowing themselves a rare treat away from their usual discipline — albeit with one eye already on what lies ahead, as pre-season testing for the 2026 campaign gets underway in Barcelona in just over a month.

With Christmas approaching, the seven-time world champion was quizzed on what would make up his perfect Christmas dinner, as he counts down the days to getting back behind the wheel for his second year with Ferrari.
