Despite the expectation that the mandatory two-stop rule in Monaco would make the race more exciting, the opposite happened. Former F1 driver Jan Lammers shared his opinion on the special Monaco rule in the NOS Formula 1 podcast. "The people who came up with this rule, couldn't they have anticipated this? Being in racing, it's interesting to follow something tactical like this, but beyond that, I can't say it made the race much more exciting. It's really about gambling. Which suits Monaco, of course."
Is F1 overregulated by the FIA?
After being asked how he felt about the FIA making special rules for races, he said, "I've also been against DRS for years. The young drivers of today look at you and think: 'How are you supposed to overtake?'"
"Look at karting tracks. You can't overtake there either, but hey, find a way. And of course, it will get rougher, but that's the same with other sports, too."
Lammers then applied the same thought process to other sports.
"It happens in motocross, or motor racing, or with football. That's occasionally a contact sport, too. Find the gap and sort it out. That's really the problem for a driver. It's so overregulated. A driver's skill can hardly be used."
