Lando Norris proved fastest during the first free practice session for the
British Grand Prix. He set a fast lap of 1:27.420 seconds.
Lance Stroll and
Oscar Piastri were second and third respectively. The session was marked by a red flag 20 minutes into practice after Yuki Tsunoda spun at Luffield. Verstappen only finished fourth.
Early red flag caused by Tsunoda
The session was interrupted early on by
Yuki Tsunoda. The Japanese was stranded in the gravel at Luffield after running wide through Brooklands, causing a red flag. Verstappen briefly had the fastest time, but
George Russell and both Aston Martins were also very fast in this session.
Four rookies competed in this session.
Formula 2 driver Isack Hadjar took over
Sergio Perez's car during this free practice and finished in 20th place. His fellow Formula 2 driver Franco Colapinto was also in action today for
Williams F1 in
Logan Sargeant's car. This was the first time the Argentinian competed in an FP1 session. Jack Doohan is also back after Canada, this time driving
Pierre Gasly's car but once again didn't get much running. And probably the most famous name at the moment for this free practice: Oliver Bearman. Bearman announced on Thursday that he has signed a contract with Haas for 2025. The young Briton drove
Kevin Magnussen's car in this session, with which he finished in fourteenth place.
