Lewis Hamilton has said Ferrari will have to have "serious talks" following his clash with Charles Leclerc at the Mexico City GP. The Briton finished P2 behind Max Verstappen, and ahead of newly crowned F1 champion Kimi Antonelli.
On Lap 1 of the Grand Prix, Leclerc ran onto the grass and cut the chicane, emerging ahead of his teammate after running on the outside of Turn 4. The Monegasque driver received a five-second penalty for the incident, but Hamilton was still not best pleased.
Speaking in the post-race interviews, Hamilton claimed the incident cost him victory at the Autódromo Hermanos Rodríguez, telling former Mercedes teammate Nico Rosberg:
“Tough day. I think we had the pace to win today, but it wasn’t meant to be, and we’ll take it offline and figure out what we can do in the background.
“In the drivers’ briefing, we discussed as soon as you go off in Turn 1, you have to give the position back. Last year I got a 10-second penalty for that same move that he did.

“But ultimately, it was that that lost us the win today. I think we have to have some serious talks behind the scenes, for sure."
Hamilton reflected on the positives of the result, with Ferrari looking strong all throughout the Mexico City GP weekend.“But the good thing is the team are working really hard," he said.
We’ve really improved our car. It’s great to be here, and we were on the old engine this weekend as well. Good results, good points. Shame we didn’t get a win, but some you win, some you lose."

Nevertheless, Hamilton, who was still just in the F1 Drivers' title fight with 20-year-old Antonelli was gracious in defeat, congratulating the very man that replaced him at Mercedes in 2025.
“Firstly, look at this crowd. We have to acknowledge them. A huge congratulations to Kimi and the Mercedes team. It’s great to see them all up here celebrating their success.
"Youngest world champion ever, it’s pretty phenomenal, and I’m so grateful to be in the race to witness it," Hamilton said.
