Kimi Antonelli has spoken for the first time as Formula 1 world champion after securing his maiden title with a third-place finish at the Mexican Grand Prix. The Mercedes driver became the youngest world champion in the sport's history at just 20 years and 68 days old, surpassing Sebastian Vettel's long-standing record.
The Italian crossed the line behind race winner Max Verstappen and Lewis Hamilton, completing a historic afternoon in Mexico City. Despite several interruptions and Safety Car periods, Antonelli maintained his composure to secure the podium finish he needed to wrap up the championship with four Grands Prix remaining.
Speaking immediately after the race, an emotional Antonelli paid tribute to Mercedes and his family, struggling to find the words to describe the achievement.
"We did it, we did it. I wouldn’t be here without Mercedes, without my family, so I’m very grateful for this moment and it’s one that will live forever. I’m speechless. I’m trying to process what has just happened."

The 20-year-old also reflected on the significance of sharing the podium with Verstappen and Hamilton, two drivers who have already experienced the feeling of winning a Formula 1 world championship.
"It’s been an incredible season, and to share this podium with Max and Lewis is truly incredible. And looking forward to some more battles in the future."
Antonelli admitted that the pressure of approaching his first championship had made the Mexican Grand Prix weekend particularly demanding, although he can now approach the remaining races without the title hanging in the balance.
"This weekend I did feel a bit more tense, but I’m just so happy that we got it done, and now we can enjoy the rest of the season."
