Helmut Marko is pleased with the FIA intervention on McLaren's flexible rear wing, and warns the British team he is going to target the front wing next. The FIA already announced that the wing would be investigated and GPblog confirmed earlier on Friday that the governing body had told the team that the 'flex-wing' needs to be modified. Helmut Marko has commented on the situation.

Marko reacts to McLaren's wing

Marko spoke to the German branch of Sky Sports, before the rear wing had to be adjusted: "Like most viewers, we saw it [McLaren's flex-wing] on television. And we then saw the wing flexing. The rules tell us that the wing must not be built so that it can bend while driving. The inspection is one thing, they passed that, but what happens in the race is another story."
Marko added: "There is no grey area. It says exactly [in the rules] that the wing must not change aerodynamically while driving. So either you do another testing method or you change the rules or you ban this wing. The wing bends and there is time gain."

Is Marko happy with the FIA's decision?

The FIA decided that McLaren's 'flex-wing' should be modified. Marko then spoke to ORF: "Three times we protested against McLaren's rear wing. Today the FIA made the right decision. McLaren's rear wing is not permitted. Now it is time to look at the front wing."
