The Italian outfit, which attracted widespread attention with its unique rear-wing design during Formula 1 pre-season testing in Bahrain, has accelerated development to bring the “Macarena” wing to the race weekend in Shanghai.
Asked about the unusual rear wing and the potential advantage it could offer Ferrari, Hamilton, speaking to the media, including GPblog, suggested he does not expect it to provide a significant performance boost this weekend. Instead, the seven-time world champion praised the team’s effort in fast-tracking its development and production.
“I don't think there's any. We did a full day or so on the wing, so I think we did. But we got all the running needed on it, and I'm so grateful for the team’s work, because it was actually supposed to be later down the line, and they worked really hard to develop it and get it brought here,” Hamilton began.

“That, for me, is just great to see. The team are fighting, the team are pushing and chasing, and really working overtime back at the factory to be able to bring upgrades, because that's the name of the game. I think last year we didn't get to see, I didn't get to see, the team's full potential in that mode, because we were focused on next year,” he added.

Hamilton reveals his name for the rear wing

The British driver also spoke about the name attached to the unusual design, revealing the term he personally uses to describe the rotating rear wing concept.
“I don't know if it has an official name. Someone said Macarena, I have no idea why, but the flip-flop wing.”
The Macarena rear wing particularly stole the spotlight during testing in Bahrain, with several drivers and stakeholders airing their thoughts about the design concept.
