Sergio Pérez's performance at
Red Bull Racing this season has been mixed. The Mexican driver may have won the
Azerbaijan Grand Prix, but he started slowly, and is still a slight way of teammate
Max Verstappen in qualifying.
Pierre Gasly thinks he could do the same, if not better, in Perez's position.
The Frenchman was given a chance at Red Bull, but was unable to convince the team at the time. Gasly was replaced during the season and
Alexander Albon took his place. This season, however, Gasly is doing extremely well at AlphaTauri and is hoping for another chance at the team of Verstappen and Pérez.
"I think I can perform at least as well as him," Gasly stated in conversation with
Formel1.de. "
I work very hard to become a complete driver. And I show that on the track as well. I fight against Ferrari and also McLaren, and I do it consistently. I perform in qualifying and also for the races and I think I am showing a very good potential." Performance Gasly at AlphaTauri
Gasly also did well again in the first free practice session of the
Styrian Grand Prix, finishing with the second quickest time.
"I don't think there is another driver who has scored 37 points after seven races with AlphaTauri. In the past, results like that were always immediately rewarded with a jump to Red Bull, or at least pretty quickly" he said.
