It wasn’t one of the main battles broadcast live, but the intense fight and contact between Charles Leclerc and Carlos Sainz in the closing stages of the British Grand Prix sparked plenty of debate. They’re no longer teammates, but
Charles Leclerc and Carlos Sainz continue to go at it hard on track — just like when they raced side by side at Ferrari.
Most of the cameras naturally focused on the battle for victory between the two McLarens and Max Verstappen’s troubles, but the fierce duel between the Spaniard and the Monegasque in the closing stages of the Silverstone GP also deserves attention.
Fighting for seventh place, the Williams driver attempted an outside move at Stowe corner, but Leclerc briefly lost control of his car, running wide and clipping the front wing of the Madrilenian.

Both went off track, losing several positions, with Sainz eventually finishing the race in twelfth place and the Monegasque two places further back.
“It was going well,” Sainz observed while speaking to media including GPBlog. “I feel like the whole year so far we were doing everything right. The strategy goals, good driving. P7, P8 at the time.''
“Ten laps to go when I was fighting with Charles, I think he was on his out lap on the slicks. He lost control of the car and crashed into me. And that was it. I went back to P12 with a damaged car, and I finished P12. Again, very unlucky.''
“That was clearly my fault and I went to see Carlos for that,” Leclerc admitted after the race. “I know it cost him points, and I’m sorry for that.”
