F1 champions and famous faces get set for the iconic 24 Hours of Le Mans

In addition to the Canadian Grand Prix, this weekend also marks the legendary 24 Hours of Le Mans, with several former Formula 1 drivers taking part in the iconic endurance race in the World Endurance Championship.
Last year, Ferrari made it back-to-back wins in the 24 Hours of Le Mans, with the #50 car driven by Nicklas Nielsen, Antonio Fuoco and Miguel Molina taking the race win.
The Italian team have three entries to take to the Circuit de la Sarthe this weekend, hoping for a third win in as many years.

Big names in the Hypercar class

The biggest name from Formula 1 participating in the 24 Hours of Le Mans is Jenson Button, who became world champion with Brawn GP in 2009.
The 45-year-old is participating in the 24-hour race for the fourth time, still searching for his first victory around the 13.6 kilometre track. This year, he will be racing in the Hypercar class in the #38 Cadillac Hertz Team Jota, along with former F1 driver Sebastian Bourdais and New Zealander Earl Bamber.
Along with that, Kevin Magnussen will be taking to France after his stints in the pinnacle of motorsport, racing in the #15 BMW M Team WRT with Raffaele Marciello and Dries Vanthoor
In addition, there are more drivers with a history in Formula 1 on the grid at Le Mans, with Robert Kubica, Mick Schumacher, Nyck de Vries, and Kamui Kobayashi all participating in the endurance race. Here is an overview of all participants who have been in Formula 1.

Other classes see familiar faces

In addition to all the former F1 drivers starting the endurace race, there are some other big names who will be behind th wheel for the 24 hours.
W Series champion Jamie Chadwick will be taking to the LMP2 class alongside Lotterer in the #18 IDEC Sport, while former F2 champion Theo Pourchaire will race in the #25 Algarve Pro Racing.
In the LMGT3 class, 24 entries have been officially announced, with the great motorcycle world champion Valentino Rossi headlining the names, racing alongside Ahmad Al Harthy and Kelvin van der Linde in the #46 Team WRT, the same number with which Rossi used to race with in MotoGP.
Two-time WEC world champion and 2021 Le Mans winner José María López will also be in the GT3 class in the #87 Akkodis ASP Team, while former F1 driver Rubens Barrichello will see his son Eduardo race in the #10 Racing Spirit of Léman entry.
