In Silverstone, Nico Hulkenberg achieved the his first ever Formula 1 podium. The German was widely praised for this performance, raising the question to Helmut Marko whether Hülkenberg would have been a good fit as the second driver at Red Bull Racing as well.
There has been a lot of discussion about who should be the second driver alongside Max Verstappen at Red Bull Racing. Yuki Tsunoda is yet to really convince and has not scored over the last five arounds, after earlier this season Liam Lawson was moved back to Racing Bulls after just two rounds.
After Hulkenberg's impressive drive at the British Grand Prix, Marko was asked by OE24 whether the German was ever considered to be brought in to Red Bull Racing.

Red Bull chose between Perez and Hulkenberg

"That was before we signed Checo Perez," the top advisor began.
"Hindsight is always easy. Checo won back then, Hulkenberg threw races away. He's better now. The older he gets, the fewer mistakes he makes. That's why he has a good contract with Audi (Sauber will become Audi in the 2026 season, ed.)," the Austrian explained.
After 239 attempts, Hulkenberg managed to conquer this milestone of stepping onto the podium. This was also Sauber's first podium since the 2012 season. Marko too was impressed by the driver's performance. "After 239 races on the podium, we can only congratulate him. He's very popular in the paddock."
