GPblog readers have been split over which venue they would like to see return to the Formula 1 calendar following the confirmation of the Turkish Grand Prix’s comeback from 2027.
Alongside the announcement of Istanbul Park’s return to the calendar under a five-year deal from 2027 to 2031, we also asked you which historic venues you would like to see make a comeback in the future. Readers delivered mixed responses in the poll, although the Malaysian Grand Prix at the Sepang International Circuit ultimately emerged as the clear favourite, a historic fixture from 1999 to 2017 that remains fondly remembered by fans.

In second place among the options was the South African Grand Prix, which secured 21% of the vote, while Hockenheim ranked third with 15%. Among the other options, the Nürburgring collected 10% of the vote, with Imola just behind on 8%. Fuji followed with 5%, while Magny-Cours received very little support at just 1%. A further 10% of readers opted for different venues not included among the choices.
“Glad to see Turkey back. Now give me Sepang and Kyalami too!”
“Glad to see Turkey back. Now give me Sepang and Kyalami too!” wrote one user, highlighting fans’ desire to see both the Malaysian and South African Grands Prix return. “Kyalami! It’s been too long now,” another user added in a separate comment.

Formula 1 calendar is now full with the addition of the Turkish Grand Prix

Zandvoort is set to drop off the Formula 1 calendar after this season, while from 2027 a rotation system will come into play involving Spa-Francorchamps and the Spanish Grand Prix at Barcelona. That shift creates two available slots on the schedule, both of which have now been accounted for. Portimão has already been confirmed to make its return, and the second opening will be taken by Istanbul Park, bringing the total number of race weekends back in line, with the remaining events unchanged for the 2027 season.

Looking further ahead, the situation remains locked in for 2028 as well, with a full calendar of 24 Grands Prix already mapped out. As a result, any additional venue would have to wait until at least 2029 to enter the schedule. The next potential opportunity will come when several current deals expire, including those of the Portuguese Grand Prix, the Singapore Grand Prix and the Mexico City Grand Prix.
