Formula 1 has officially confirmed the return of the Turkish Grand Prix at Istanbul Park from the 2027 season under a multi-year agreement. The circuit is guaranteed to return until 2031.

Turkish GP returns to the F1 calendar

One of the most popular Grands Prix among fans and drivers is set to return to the calendar after a five-year absence, with its last edition held in 2021.
That race was won by Valtteri Bottas, who would leave Mercedes just a few months later, with the two Red Bulls of Max Verstappen and Sergio Perez completing the podium. The year before, it was Lewis Hamilton who came out on top, in a race remembered for sealing his seventh world title.
F1 CEO Stefano Domenicali said: "We are delighted to be returning to the incredible and vibrant city of Istanbul from 2027 to thrill all our fans in Türkiye and around the world on one of the most exciting and challenging circuits in Formula 1. As a city, Istanbul represents a cultural gateway between Europe and Asia, offering a unique blend of history and tradition with a forward-thinking approach to sport, business, and entertainment."

“I want to thank His Excellency President Mr. Erdogan, the Ministry of Youth and Sports, the Ministry of Culture and Tourism, and the Turkish Automobile Sports Federation for their support in securing Formula 1’s return. Many memorable moments have been made in our sport’s history at Istanbul Park and I’m excited to begin the next chapter of our partnership, giving fans the opportunity to experience even more incredible racing in a truly fantastic location."
The FIA's President, Mohammed Ben Sulayem, added: "Formula 1’s return to Türkiye is a powerful reflection of the continued global growth and appeal of our sport, and I am delighted to see the Turkish Grand Prix rejoin the FIA Formula One World Championship calendar. Istanbul Park is a circuit that holds a special place in Formula 1 history, and its return underlines our shared commitment to expanding the championship in dynamic markets."

Speaking back in March, Domenicali admitted that Turkey was not yet fully confirmed, saying, “Turkey is not, let’s say, 100 percent confirmed. Stay tuned on Turkey, let me put it this way,” hinting that negotiations were at an advanced stage.
He also responded to criticism over the number of street races, adding: “To answer to the people that were saying there were too many street races: The new ones that are coming are tracks, not street races. So once again, we need to always remember prudency in comments. These are tracks with the heritage, with the great racing background,” once again pointing to Turkey as one to watch.
