With the return of the Turkish Grand Prix, the Formula 1 calendar is now complete for the upcoming season. Istanbul Park fills the 24th and final slot on the 2027 schedule, and there will be no 25th Grand Prix, GPblog understands.
Earlier today, it was confirmed that the Turkish Grand Prix returns to the Formula 1 calendar on a permanent basis for the first time since 2011. In 2020 and 2021, two races were contested due to the COVID-19 pandemic and its impact on the calendar.
For years now, a maximum of 24 Grands Prix have been planned, as also underlined by F1 CEO Stefano Domenicali in various interviews in the past. GPblog has learned that this will not change, and that the Turkish Grand Prix will fill the final available spot on the calendar, which will not expand to 25 weekends in 2027.

How will the F1 calendar change in 2027?

This season, the Dutch Grand Prix will be held for the last time at Zandvoort, and from next year, the Belgian and Spanish Grands Prix at Barcelona-Catalunya will begin rotating. This opens two gaps on the schedule for the 2027 campaign. One is filled by the Portuguese Grand Prix at Portimão, and today it was announced that the second gap will be filled by Istanbul Park. The other 23 weekends will continue in 2027 as usual.

When can a track next join the calendar?

At present, the 2028 calendar is also full, with 24 Grands Prix already planned for that season. The earliest a new track could join would therefore be in 2029, when the next slots open. In 2028, three contracts expire: the Portuguese Grand Prix, the Singapore Grand Prix, and the Mexico City Grand Prix.
