Jenson Button has announced he will no longer drive in WEC (World Endurance Championship) the next campaign. Is this the end of the road for the British driver? Button claimed his one and only Formula 1 world title in 2009 with Brawn GP. After that, the British driver competed for McLaren in F1. In total, he won 15 F1 Grands Prix before leaving for different adventures. Since then, he has also been a pundit on Sky Sports.
In 2023, he returned to Le Mans for the second time in his career, driving the #24 Hendrick Motorsports NASCAR car together with Jimmie Johnson and Mike Rockenfeller.
The season after, the former F1 world champion became a full time driver for Hertz Team Jota, that then became Cadillac Hertz Team Jota for the 2025 campaign, switching to the American brand's cars from Porsche.
Button and his teammates Earl Bamber and another former F1 driver, Sébastien Bourdais, had a couple of strong results in the #38 car. They finished in P6 at the 24h of Le Mans, and the team is coming off of a one-two finish at the 6h of Interlagos event, where Button's team crossed the finish line in second place.
Button to no longer compete in WEC
"Life has got too busy with so many different things going on – it is a very busy schedule I have. It is about time I start thinking about the future a little bit more, and I want to spend more time with my family," Button is quoted by Motorsport.com.
He continued: "It is unfair as well to the team: I probably don’t have enough time to give to it, especially next year.”
Will we see Button competing still? To that, he revealed: “I will be racing in something next year, but not a full season.”
