Oscar Piastri fell to McLaren teammate Lando Norris in the battle for the F1 2025 Drivers' title. "People are going to be wondering, do we need to stay, do we need to go? Thereās going to be a lot of questions."

From being the favourite driver to take the title, the Australian driver found himself on the backfoot in a critical part of the season as point-less results in Azerbaijan (crash, ed.) and Las Vegas (disqualification for McLaren's technical breach, ed.), and the pit stop window missed by the team in Qatar, along with being beaten by Norris in Mexico, the United States and Brazil, almost certainly mooted his chances going in the title deciding race in Abu Dhabi.
However, given McLaren's measures to maintain team harmony which often played out against Piastri, former F1 driver Juan Pablo Montoya thinks there may be some questions that need answering in the Australian's camp, that could question Piastri's stay in the Woking-based outfit.
āItās hard," Montoya told F1TV. "I think what Oscar said, at least he finished on a higher note, like he found the pace, he found the speed, he found everything he needed.
āThe big question for him in his mind is, next year, can I beat Lando again? Is the team going to change? Is anything going to change in the team because Lando is world champion?"
āAnd not only in Oscar but everybody in his camp, people are going to be wondering, do we need to stay, do we need to go? Thereās going to be a lot of questions," Montoya concluded.
Piastri learns lesson after championship defeat
