Sebastian Vettel hoped to get back to his old self at Aston Martin, but hasn't scored a single point for his new team in the first two races. Gerhard Berger feels sorry for his former pupil.

Vettel was shown the door at Ferrari and many people, including Berger, thought it was a good idea for Vettel to stop. At Ferrari it was already clear that the German wasn't at the peak of his capabilities anymore, but Vettel himself wanted to continue. At Aston Martin he wants to show what he can do one more time, but is that really possible?

Should Vettel have stopped

''Sebastian is a friend and I get on well with him, but at the end of last year I already told him to stop. Enjoy those four world titles, go to some classics or enjoy other things in life. However, there are drivers who still enjoy racing, and so is Seb. It was up to him to make that decision,'' Berger said in the F1 Nation Podcast.

''This situation does remind me of my own career. There comes a point when you think you are still doing everything right. That you're still taking all the risks and that you're still driving well enough, but you're not. There is a moment when all that becomes less. He can still drive a good race, but he's not the old Vettel anymore.''

Stroll puts pressure on Vettel

According to Berger, the pressure on Vettel has also been increasing, and the Austrian has often indicated that Vettel is not coping very well with that. In a good environment he can get more out of a car than anyone else, but under pressure it becomes very difficult. The special thing is that this year he is under pressure from Lance Stroll.

''Lance is faster than Vettel and maybe also better than some people thought. If you are a four-time world champion and a young driver is better than you, that hurts a lot,'' Berger concludes.
