Christian Horner believes that Formula 1 could condense a race weekend by getting rid of multiple practice sessions.

The Red Bull team principal believes that three sessions before qualifying and the race is unnecessary especially with Liberty Media's ambitious plans to expand the race calendar beyond 21 races per year.

Formula 1 management has made clear that the structure of a race weekend is an area they are looking at changing however nothing has been set in stone as of yet.

Horner however insisted that the race weekend would have to be made shorter if the calendar did grow past 21 races a year, adding that it would be good enough for teams to gather data for a race.

"I think it depends on how many races we end up with," he said.

"If we end up going more races then arguably we do need to maybe condense the time or maybe just have we saw one session worked well enough on Friday here, maybe one good session is the way to go and then parts and people can turn up a little bit later.

"One session is enough for the weekend."

Horner is not the only one calling for a shorter race weekend. Daniil Kvyat also believes Friday practice is a thing of the past and should be taken away.
