Charles Leclerc topped the second free practice session of the Mexico City Grand Prix. Lando Norris finished in second place, while George Russell completed the top three this Friday.
Both British drivers finished only a single tenth of a second behind Leclerc. Kimi Antonelli and Max Verstappen finished fourth and fifth, respectively, around two and three tenths behind the Ferrari driver.
Lewis Hamilton only set the 11th-fastest time. The Briton could not participate in the second half of the session after a technical issue forced him to pull over.
As it happened
After 10 rookie drivers participated in FP1 earlier today, all the regular drivers, including Verstappen, Russell and Norris, returned to the track.

Drivers wasted no time getting out on track during the second session. The initial tyre choices differed between teams and drivers. Most opted for the mediums, while Verstappen and Alex Albon chose the softs to kick things off at the Autódromo Hermanos Rodríguez.
Just minutes into FP1, Leclerc experienced a scary moment as he nearly lost his car in the fast corners of Sector 2. Luckily for Ferrari, he managed to stay on track. Still, after 15 minutes, the Monegasque driver led the session with a 1:18.2.
Minutes later, Verstappen and Liam Lawson made contact in the final corner after going side-by-side through the entire last sector. The debris left on the circuit led to a brief red flag. The incident will be investigated after the session, with both drivers summoned to appear before the stewards.

Afterwards, Hamilton's session was cut short. The seven-time world champion had to park his car on the start-finish straight after he lost power.

The final 15 minutes were less eventful. Similarly to FP1, Leclerc topped the session. The Monegasque driver's best lap was a 1:17.827 on the soft tyres.
