Silverstone confident resurfacing won't affect 2019 F1 race

Silverstone is set to undergo a second resurfacing phase in as many years after complaints from drivers over the bumpiness of the track last season.

Following criticism from several drivers including world champion Lewis Hamilton, the circuit is set to undergo another resurfacing job ahead of the 2019 race with new contractor Tarmac working with Italian circuit developer Dromo.

Silverstone managing director Stuart Pringle insisted that the task would be carried out ahead of the race in July without any issues and the end product would be a vast improvement over last years job.

“Following the cancellation of last year’s race the governing body, the Fédération Internationale de Motocyclisme, suspended our track licence.

Formula 1 was not the only series to suffer as a result of the 2018 resurfacing. The 2018 MotoGP race at Silverstone was cancelled due to heavy rainfall and a lack of drainage capabilities at the circuit.
