A new deal between Liberty Media and the owners of the
Silverstone circuit isn't close to being sorted. Chairman of the British Racing Driver's Club (BRDC), the body that owns the circuit, John Grant said he was "hopeful" a new deal would be agreed but both parties were "some way apart".
"As things stand, 2019 could be the last British GP at Silverstone - or indeed anywhere," he said in a letter obtained by the BBC.
At the moment, this years race could be the penultimate race at the venue with 2019's race being the final grand prix to take place on the current contract between Silverstone and F1.
The owners activated a break-clause in their contract last year which meant that the contract would only run until next year rather than 2027 as was initially set.
In Grant's letter, he acknowledged several points including that: "both recognise that the British Grand Prix is one of the 'iconic' GPs and, as such, is important to the future of the F1 championship and the value of the F1 brand."
He went on to admit that both parties were also aware that Silverstone is currently the only realistic location to host the British Grand Prix but reaffirmed that the BRDC wanted a deal that suited them as well as Liberty Media.
