Martin Brundle saw Max Verstappen achieve a "new level of dominance in F1" with his victory in the Mexican Grand Prix. According to the former Formula One driver, Verstappen's good start was crucial, as was Red Bull Racing's choice of tyres.

Good start and strategy Red Bull

The Mercedes cars of George Russell and Lewis Hamilton lined up behind Verstappen, but Verstappen immediately averted that threat at the start. Not only did the Dutchman have a very good start, he also immediately dealt with Russell's overtaking attempts.

"Verstappen was very smart away from pole position in heading to the dusty but more easily defended right hand side of the track. This played nicely into the hands of second-placed qualifier George Russell, who gladly accepted the slipstream until he was obliged to move left and partly alongside," Brundle writes in his column for Sky Sports.

Mercedes was able to keep pace well in the first stint but went wrong by putting both drivers on the same strategy. Once Verstappen switched to mediums, he continued to drive away from Hamilton, who was on a compound harder, until the finish line. "Verstappen serenely took his record 14th win of the season and Red Bull took their ninth-straight victory," Brundle concluded.
