FIA takes anger out on Red Bull: "Complete nonsense!"

Following Mercedes' call after the Azerbaijan Grand Prix for the FIA to start looking at measures for the porpoising problem, there were already immediate dissenting voices. Nevertheless, the governing body decided to intervene. This has not gone down well with everyone, as is evident in Canada.

Red Bull doesn't get it

Max Verstappen has already been very critical of the issued technical directive and Helmut Marko is not amused either. He makes short shrift of the approach chosen by the FIA. According to the Red Bull Racing advisor it doesn't make sense that some complaints from Mercedes drivers cause the rules to be changed.

"This is complete nonsense! Just because a team can't cope with the changes, you don't change the regulations," Marko said to Kleine Zeitung. The 78-year-old Austrian argues that it's all being made far too difficult. "You can just put the car higher, and that's it."

At Mercedes they played the trump card 'safety' after the end of the last GP on the street circuit of Baku. However, Red Bull believes that if drivers don't feel comfortable in the car, then they should just have ride height adjusted, even if it is at the expense of performance. It's just a matter of choices, according to Marko. As far as he is concerned, additional rules that will be controlled by the FIA are not necessary.

It is remarkable that Red Bull speaks out against the new rules. The Austrian team will probably be less affected than Ferrari and Mercedes. They bounce much more and will therefore be on the FIA's radar much sooner when they measure how hard and how often bounces occur. If a certain limit is exceeded, they will have to adjust the ride height to make it more comfortable for the driver. Otherwise disqualification will follow.
