It was a highly successful weekend to remember for the Coenen brothers in Sardinia as the pair were involved in dramatic races in their respective categories in MXGP.
The 19 year old twins from Belgium have taken the Motorcross world by storm over the last few years, and their dominance in Riola Sardo was yet another statement of intent from the Red Bull KTM duo.
Sacha Coenen was up first in Race 1 of the MX2 class, winning by a comfortable 12 second margin ahead of Simon Langenfelder, the current MX2 championship leader.
Then in the MXGP 450cc category, Lucas Coenen, who was seen training alongside MotoGP's Fabio Quartararo earlier in the week, recovered from a poor start to make a spectacular overtake on Dutch legend Jeffrey Herlings, before clearing off into the lead and winning by over 19 seconds.

In MX2 Race 2, Sacha put the hammer down early and had a lead of over four seconds before sliding out and falling down as far as 9th. He then battled back heroically to 2nd place, putting him level on points for the weekend with Langenfelder.
Lucas Coenen picked up victory in the MXGP Race 2, securing 1st place overall for the weekend ahead of Jeffrey Herlings. It was a dramatic race in which Coenen crashed from the lead just as his brother had done, but managed to recover and stay ahead of Herlings as the two crossed the line almost a full lap ahead of the rest of the field.
Herlings still had a decent points haul from the weekend as his great start with Honda HRC continues. It is his debut season with the new team and so far, while perhaps not quite at the level they would want to be yet, there are still many promising early signs.
