MotoGP leader shares key surgery decision update in quest to dethrone Marquez

After the weekend at Misano, the Aprilia rider said he would decide whether to undergo surgery after the Sprint at the Red Bull Ring. The 2024 MotoGP world champion has now decided against surgery.

He told MotoGP's After the Flag: "I’m happy. I think the condition is, for sure, difficult because I’m not at my 100%."

"Now we move into the Asian tour in, I think, a great shape, understanding the bike a bit more. And I think it’s good news, because going into surgery is a big risk," he concluded.

Martin was the biggest winner of the weekend at the Red Bull Ring, showing why he is one of the contenders for this year's MotoGP title.

On Saturday, after losing ground in his Lap 1 battle with Marquez, the Aprilia rider showed great pace and recovered to second position. He eventually won after Pedro Acosta crashed while leading the race.

During Sunday's Grand Prix, Acosta was too strong and claimed his first-ever victory in the series, while Martin managed to cross the finish line in second place and Marquez only finished fifth.

As he finished ahead of Marquez on both days, he now once again leads the riders' standings by 12 points ahead of the Ducati rider.

"I’m a bit tired from the race, it was a really long race. I had to manage the rear grip a lot at the end; it was so difficult to put the power down on the ground," Martin added.
