McLaren pulled out all the stops to try and save Lando Norris and Oscar Piastri from disqualification after the Las Vegas Grand Prix, but ultimately came up short. Heading into the race, Norris held a 49-point lead over Max Verstappen, but the championship battle suddenly swung back open when the FIA disqualified both McLaren cars for breaching plank wear regulations.

Under Article 3.5.9 of the technical rules, the skid block must maintain a minimum thickness of 9 mm, and both MCL39s were found below that limit. After a detailed inspection, the FIA had no choice but to enforce the disqualifications.

McLaren attempted several defenses to overturn the penalties, presenting multiple arguments, but none were deemed strong enough by the stewards to prevent the disqualifications.

Aston Martin is said to have parted ways with team principal Andy Cowell after the Las Vegas GP, after spending less than a year in the role.

The former Mercedes figure had joined the team at the end of 2024 as CEO, later stepping into his current role at the start of the season, replacing Mike Krack.

Several names have been brought up as potential replacements, including Andreas Seidl, while Christian Horner's name has also been mentioned.

The Brit, who was dismissed ahead of the Belgian GP by Red Bull Racing, reportedly still has a period of gardening leave to serve, which would mean he could only start at a new team halfway through 2026.
