The Sauber driver was forced to retire on Lap 2, so the stewards completed their investigation after the conclusion of the race.
As a result, Bortoleto could not serve his 10-second penalty on track, which will now be converted into a five-place grid drop for the upcoming Qatar Grand Prix, which is set to take place this upcoming weekend.

In their explanation, the stewards shared: "The driver of Car 5 braked extremely late and as a result collided with Car 18. Even though this was a Lap 1 Turn 1 incident, mitigating circumstances do not exist and hence the standard 10 second penalty would have applied however as Car 5 retired, the penalty is converted into a grid penalty for the next Race in which the driver participates, in accordance with our guidelines."
Bortoleto had kept it clean until now this season, as this is the first time he has received penalty points by the stewards in his
F1 career. He was awarded two points for this incident.
