Good morning and welcome to today’s edition of GPblog’s daily liveblog. Be sure to check back at intervals so you don’t miss out on the latest happenings across F1.
Jack Doohan’s prospect of a return to Formula 1 now appears highly uncertain, particularly following a recent post by the Australian on his social media.
The 22-year-old, who failed to secure a permanent full-time seat at the Alpine outfit, is now expected to compete in the Japanese Super Formula for the 2026 season.
Doohan recently had a test in the racing series, albeit one that was far from remarkable, as he crashed three times in as many days at the Suzuka Circuit.
Doohan’s F1 stint, which spanned seven races, also wasn’t any better, as he failed to record a points-scoring finish.
While uncertainty clouds the prospect of Doohan’s return to Formula 1, Oscar Piastri has found that the ghost of the 2025 season continues to hover over him.
The McLaren driver missed out on a maiden drivers’ championship after squandering his 34-point lead atop the standings.
Piastri, who led the championship for over half of the season – 15 races – finished third at the end of the season, 12 points behind eventual winner and teammate Lando Norris.

However, Piastri’s failed title bid earned him the unsavoury record of being the driver to lead the drivers’ standings the longest in a season and still fail to win the championship.
