Max Verstappen has compared his enduring relationship with Red Bull to a future marriage in his personal life, after extending his contract with Red Bull through 2030. The Dutchman committed his future to Red Bull ahead of this weekend's Dutch Grand Prix, and should he remain with the outfit until the end of his contract, he would enter his 15th season with the team in 2030.
Speaking to the media on Thursday, it was pointed out to Verstappen that 15 years with the team is "longer than many marriages nowadays". Asked what the secret ingredient in his relationship with the team is, he hinted at a future marriage with partner Kelly Piquet.
Verstappen, speaking to GPblog among other media, said: "Practising for my own marriage, just seeing how long I can eke that out in racing terms and then try and triple that, at least, in marriage.
"Come on. Yeah, I mean, I always said already back in the day when Dietrich was still alive, I said to him, "My goal and target would be, of course, to race for Red Bull forever." So we're on the good way."
Verstappen and Piquet are not married but have a child together after welcoming their daughter Lily back in April 2025. Piquet also has another child, Penelope, who she had while in a relationship with ex-F1 driver Daniil Kvyat in 2019.
Verstappen was closer to retiring than joining another team
Although Verstappen had been linked with McLaren and Mercedes in the past, the four-time world champion insists that
he was closer to retirement than joining a rival team.
Speaking to GPblog, among other media, Verstappen said: "I think I was closer to retiring than changing team. I have to say, after the first few races, I said to Laurent, 'Don't come to me with any kind of questions about the future, because I don't even know if I want to stay.' But honestly, we always kept it very open."
