Robin Frijns set the fastest time in the first free practice for the Tokyo E-Prix. The 32-year-old Dutchman completed the lap in the Japanese capital in 1:20.865, more than two tenths faster than Edoardo Mortara.
The two Germans, Maximilian Günter and Pascal Wehrein, set the third and fourth times, respectively. Nick Cassidy, the world championship leader, found himself in P6 on the timesheet.
Frijns - who had a particularly disappointing year with ABT CUPRA last year with just six points and a 22nd place in the world championship - has had a much better start in 2024. After four E-Prix, he is number 10 in the World Championship. If he manages to build on his strong FP1, he could climb some places in the rankings this weekend.
