Danish driver Kevin Magnussen, who previously raced for McLaren, Renault and Haas, has confirmed that he will join the NASCAR Cup Series, racing for Trackhouse's Project 91. The former F1 driver, known for his aggressive and uncompromising style, was axed from the F1 grid at the end of 2024 when he was replaced by Ollie Bearman. Nonetheless, the 33-year-old has remained active in the world of racing and competed in the WEC and the GT Challenge Cup for BMW's Team WRT.
Now he is turning his attention to an all-new series with very different requirements as he jumps straight into the deep end of NASCAR racing. By doing so, he follows in the footsteps of F1 legend Kimi Räikkönen, who also raced the #91 Chevrolet in 2022.
Magnussen had previously experimented with IndyCar in 2021, so transitioning to a new series might not be so alien to him - even considering the vastly different requirements of NASCAR in comparison to Formula 1.

Magnussen's first race will be the Anduril 250 at Coronado Street Course, a circuit which is located on an active US Airforce base. Magnussen doesn't seem daunted by the task, and it seems he is ready to try and write another memorable chapter in his racing career:
"I’m incredibly excited and honored to have the opportunity to compete in NASCAR," he said, "What Trackhouse and Justin Marks have done with Project 91 is unique, giving drivers from outside NASCAR a chance to compete at this level. I’m proud to be part of it."
