The first and only free practice session of the Singapore Grand Prix has just concluded, with George Russell topping the timesheets ahead of this afternoon's Sprint Qualifying as the haze gradually gave way to the glow of the Marina Bay Circuit's floodlights in the closing minutes. Here is a full recap of the session.
The drivers spent almost the entire session running on hard tyres before stepping up the pace on softs in the final 15 minutes. With the track still lacking rubber, George Russell went fastest with a lap time of 1:32.274.
Behind Russell, Charles Leclerc finished second for Ferrari, just 0.198 seconds off the Mercedes driver's benchmark of 1:32.274. Lando Norris completed the top three, only 0.075 seconds behind the Monegasque, while Lewis Hamilton secured fourth place in the other Ferrari, almost half a second adrift of Russell.
Oscar Piastri rounded out the top five for McLaren, finishing 0.564 seconds off the pace, with Max Verstappen sixth for Red Bull, 0.732 seconds behind the session leader. The top six drivers were covered by less than eight tenths of a second, with Mercedes, Ferrari, McLaren and Red Bull all represented.
Kimi Antonelli, meanwhile, had to settle for seventh place in the second Mercedes, finishing 1.251 seconds behind his teammate Russell. The Italian was followed by Isack Hadjar in eighth, with the Red Bull driver ending the session 1.449 seconds off the fastest time. Pierre Gasly took ninth for Alpine, 1.764 seconds adrift, while Liam Lawson completed the top ten for Racing Bulls, finishing 1.881 seconds behind Russell. Unlike the drivers ahead of them, Verstappen and Antonelli set their fastest laps on medium tyres rather than softs.

During the middle stages of the session, teams turned their attention to short race simulations on relatively low fuel loads, seemingly with an eye on tomorrow's Sprint race, as lap times remained fairly close to those recorded during qualifying-style runs.
In an otherwise relatively trouble-free session, Nico Hulkenberg was the only driver to encounter problems, with an issue on his Audi forcing him to park his RS26 just outside the pit lane exit. Marshals subsequently came to his assistance and recovered the car, bringing it back to the pit lane.
The German outfit subsequently confirmed that Hulkenberg's car suffered an issue that forced him to stop on track, although the cause of the problem has yet to be identified. The team has since recovered the car and is now focusing on preparing it for Sprint Qualifying, while continuing to investigate the issue.
